He was predeceased by : his parents, Charley Vester Cates, Sr. and Mary Frances; and his siblings, Bobby Ray Cates and Donna Sue Swafford. He is survived by : his significant other Ann Seba (Whiskey Pete); his children, Rodney Cates (Bonnie) and Jessica Cates Bolen (Brian Cook); his grandchildren, Michael Cates, Nathan Cates, Jacob Cates (Alexis) and Bella Bolen; and his niece Yvette Cates.
