He was predeceased by: his parents, Willis George and Lois Maxine Spurgeon (Webb); his father-in-law Max Lee Murdock; and his brothers, Stanley Thomas Spurgeon and Steven Ray Spurgeon.
He is survived by: his wife Lisa Spurgeon (Murdock); his children, Cheli McReynolds (Brent), Stephanie Spurgeon, Catie Howlett (Aaron), Steven DeFries (Jennifer), Matt DeFries (Jamie) and Johnathon DeFries (Stephanie); his siblings, Jim Spurgeon (Darlene), Gene Spurgeon (Diane), Kay Parks (Dewight) and Patty Parks (Larry); his sisters-in-law, Courtney Gillespie (Rusty), Heidi Bell (Bryan) and Lila Wake (Lanny); and his mother-in-law Rochelle Murdock. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and friends.
