He was predeceased by: his parents, John Eston and Anna Mae Shaffer (Kirchner); his brothers, Jim, Robert, Larry and Leo Shaffer; and his siblings-in-law, Norman Eckerle, Douglas Eckerle, Russell Eckerle, Merline Wilson and Jeanette Eckerle.
He is survived by: his wife Bernie; his sons, Dennis Shaffer (Analisa) of Olathe, Kansas, Dr. Chad Shaffer (Suzanne) of Overland Park, Kansas and Dr. Todd Shaffer (Brandy) of Lee's Summit, Missouri; his sister-in-law Carolyn Shaffer of Kahoka, Missouri; and his grandchildren, Olivia Shaffer of Washington, D. C., Alec Shaffer and Ian Shaffer of Lee's Summit, Missouri. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
