He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Mitchell and Mary Mitchell (Gellenbeck); and his stepfather Ezra Gibson. He is survived by: his siblings, Mary Jo, Denise Mitchell, Kevin and Noel Mitchell; and his aunt Gladys Nezat of Mansfield.
