He was predeceased by: his parents, Shadd Short and Anna Short (Slemp); his sister-in-law Brenda Short (Johnson); and his nephew Justin "Biscuit" Sanders. He is survived by: his wife Marty; his children, Michael Pagel of Mansfield, Amon Short of Mansfield, Brent Welch of West Plains and Becky Short of Mansfield; his siblings, Chuck Short, Cindy Sanders (David) and Patty Price (Rick); and his grandchildren, Rosealie, Gideon and Leo.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Justin "Biscuit" Sanders Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
