She was predeceased by: her parents, Donald Stutesman and Vesta Stutesman (Killam); her husband Norbert B. Schmitz; her sisters, Erma Berg (Francis) and Donna Auffert (Charles); and her great grandchildren, Ethan Hunter and Hunter Zink.
She is survived by: her children, Gerre Nelles (Cliff), Nancy Archer (Steve), Conception Jct, Julie Hunter (Richard), Michael Schmitz (Paulette), Patrick Schmitz (Mary Frances) and Kelly Schmitz (Martha); and her grandchildren, Jodie Smith (Jeremy), Kerre Fiebich (Stephan), Stacey Pfannenstiel (John), Brian Archer, Kellen Archer, Katharine Archer, Brad Archer, Ryan Schmitz, Josh Schmitz, Holly Conley (Matt), David Schmitz, Colin Schmitz, Jessica Hunter, Nate Hunter (Anastasia), Jake Hunter (Elizabeth), Ben Hunter (Erin), Joe Hunter, Melissa Schmitz-DeMora (Marco), Heather Wright and Andrew Schmitz. She is also survived by Twenty-nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In memory of Joan, her family suggests memorials be made in care of St. Joseph Cemetery Association or Rose Hill Cemetery Association.
