He was predeceased by: his parents, Chester Book and Eva Book (Oberholtzer); and his siblings, Mary Ellen Wingerd and Jerel Book. He is survived by: his wife Sharon Book; his children, Chris Book (Marsha), Carol Straw (Jeff) and Jenny Taylor (Jeff); his grandchildren, Stephen Straw (Emily), Tristan Straw (Rebbecca), Jade Taylor, Adam Taylor and Kent Taylor; his great grandchildren, Torben Straw and Jack Straw; and his siblings, Orrin Book, Allen Book (Mona), Anita Wingert (Don) and Loine Turner (Jeff). He is also survived by other relatives and many friends.

He taught his children and grandchildren the joys of camping, and hiking, and he had a passion for antiques, often finding treasures at auctions, turning a small profit, and generously donating the proceeds to the church.
