It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Don L. McKinzie of Mount Vernon, Missouri, who passed away on November 3, 2025, at the age of 74, leaving to mourn family and friends. As Don departs from this earthly realm, his essence lingers — a whisper on the wind, a ripple on the water — a testament to the enduring power of love to transcend the boundaries of life and death. Though Don may no longer walk beside us, his spirit lives on in the memories and the legacy Don leaves behind.
He was predeceased by: his parents, R. E. McKinzie and Betty Lou McKinzie (Lankford); his brothers, Dave and Dennis McKinzie; his grandson Marty Groves; and his brother-in-law John Furgason.
He is survived by: his children, Jenny Groves (David) of Ash Grove, Janetta Rose (Kevin) of Park, Colorado and Joseph McKinzie (Tracy) of Mt. Vernon, Missouri; and his siblings, Dea Furgason of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, Diana McKinzie of Mt. Vernon, Missouri and Dan McKinzie (Lisa) of Republic, Missouri. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 24th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home (510 E Cherry St, Mt Vernon, MO 65712). A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 25th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery (5201 S Southwood Rd, Springfield, MO 65804).
