He was predeceased by: his parents, Mildred Townsend, and Howard Townsend, Sr.; his wife Janet Gaylan Slate; and his siblings, Robert Townsend and Mary Rathbun.
He is survived by: his daughter Lori; his son-in-law Richard Dropik; his son David; his daughter-in-law Patty Townsend; his grandchildren, Andrew Dropik, Abigail Dropik, Aaron Townsend and Matthew Townsend; and his sister Donna Mort. He is also survived by two nieces and six nephews.
