He was predeceased by : his father William Benton; and his siblings-in-law, Roy Kivinen and Carol Goodburn. He is survived by : his wife Yvonne R. Kivinen; his son Richard Smith (Shellie) of Godley, Texas; his siblings, Glennis Naylor (Linda) of Neosho, Clara Terry (Darwood) of Neosho, Bobbi Hill of Neosho and Berneva Whitman (Clyde) of Grove Oklahoma; and his siblings-in-law, Kim Kivinen and Joann Lovett. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; four stepchildren.
