He is survived by: his mother Bonnie June Shepherd (Moon) of Lowell, Arkansas; his spouse Monna (McMillen); his children, Robert Shepherd (Joanna) of Neosho, Keith Shepherd (Carrie) of Joplin, Melissa Shepherd (Saundra) of Dewey and Verl Shepherd, Jr. (Caroline) of Neosho; and his siblings, Kenny Shepherd of Rogers, Irene Kelley of Pea Ridge, William Shepherd of Pea Ridge, Rita Shepherd of Pea Ridge, Mike Shepherd of Lowell and Tim Shepherd of Centerton, Arkansas. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
