He was predeceased by: his son Jay Borders, Jr.; and his siblings, Dick, Neil, Keith Borders and Vivian Hughes.

He is survived by: his former wife Jeannette Ruby Nicely; his wife Joan Hensley; his children, Joy Cottle (Randy), Janet Jacques (Marc) of North Charleston, SC and Jim Borders (Aletta); his daughter-in-law Sharon Borders; his brother Lee Borders (Arlene) of Chillicothe, MO; his sister-in-law Joyce Borders of Smithville, TX; and his nieces and nephews, Shirley, Bennie, Betty, Valerie, Doug, Becky and Shawn. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and their spouses, 35 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren.
