He was predeceased by : his parents, Leonard Scott and Dixie Lee Scott (Filler); his former life partner Dora "Kathy" Bradley; his daughter Lori Glockengeiser; his brother Gary Allen Scott; and his daughter-in-law Patricia Lester.

He is survived by : his fiancée Brenda Kay Crawford of Odessa, Missouri; and his children, Joshua Lester of Odessa, Jonathan Scott (Rachel) of Wichita Falls, Cassandra Sandy Schmidt (Jerry) of Portland and Bradley Lester of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church or American Heart Association. A GoFundMe has been set up in honor of David to help with funeral expenses.
