He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Robert and Ethel Virginia Atkins (Smith); his former wife Betty Schaeffer; and his siblings, Paul Atkins, Earl Richard Atkins, Mildred Adams Cromer, Joyce Kunkel, Elizabeth Atkins, Donald Atkins, Wayne Atkins, Neva, Glenna and Francis Atkins.
He is survived by: his wife Glenda Schaeffer; his children, Joe Atkins (Pratum) of Forest City, MO, Dan Atkins (Robin) of Trimble, MO and Gina Ripley (Bob) of Oregon, MO; his stepson Rod Schaeffer (Liz) of Lee's Summit, MO; his grandchildren, Ann Atkins (Jirat Sombunjirachaya), Alan, Cass, Amber Atkins, Jordan Ripley (Lindsay), Emily Lopez (Joaquin), Alex Ripley, Chase, Kaylee Schaeffer, Mason and Ady Morrow; and his great grandchildren, Kavin, Colyn Atkins, Avajo Sombunjirachaya, Alin Atkins, Quinn and Camden Ripley. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to the Oregon United Methodist Church, the Forest City ballpark, or the Oregon Care Center.
