He was predeceased by: his parents, Taylor Garton and Eva Garton; his son David Joe Garton; his grandchildren, Renee Huff and Mackintyre McDill-Garton; and his sibling Wren.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Ann Garton; his sons, Ray Garton (Rhonda) of Kidder Missouri, Tom Garton (Teresa) of Trimble Missouri, Glen Garton (Stacey) of Lathrop Missouri and Michael Garton (Carolina); and his siblings, John Garton and Joyce Powell. He is also survived by 10 Grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.
