He was predeceased by : his parents, Leavitt Hays and Gertrude Wentz Hays; and his brother Tom Hays. He is survived by : his wife Patricia Hays; his children, Jacob Hays, Jr. (Jackie), James Hays (Jim), Erine Smith, Joseph Smith and William Stillwell (Travis); and his siblings, Martha Henderson, Mary Hays and John. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

“Pat and family, we were so sorry to learn of Jack's passing. I sure will miss seeing him drive behind our place on his ATV. He always had a wave and a smile. Jack was one of the first people I met when we moved her almost 14 years ago. I was walking past the house with my two big afghan hound dogs and he insisted I come 'round to the back to get some water for them (and to sit a spell). It was a really hot day. Pomona won't be the same without him. Keith and Connie Schachel”
