He was predeceased by: his parents, Artie Sr. McGowen and Bertha McGowen; his son Artie Dale McGowen; his siblings, Lois Kirkman, Florine Moore and Bob McGowen; and his stepson Robert Stonecipher.

He is survived by: his former wife Peggy Frazier; his wife Sue Stonecipher; his children, Linda Key of Apollo Beach, FL, Bill McGowen of St. Louis, Dan McGowen of St. Louis and Don McGowen of Mississippi; his stepson Thomas Stonecipher of Poplar Bluff; and his siblings, Frances Inman of Poplar Bluff, Dimple Sallee of Poplar Bluff, Beulah Clark of Poplar Bluff, Vivian McMillin of Pevely, MO, Glenda Kirkman of Williamsville and Roy McGowen of Poplar Bluff.
