He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Whitmer and Agnus Whitmer (Sullivan); his son William Merchant; his siblings, Deanna McIntosh, Patricia Walker, Jack, Richard, Robert, Charles and Gary Whitmer; his former wife Sandra Rusert Whitmer; and his stepson Chris Moore.
He is survived by: his wife Debbie Hicks; his children, Stanley Carl Whitmer (Freda), Gene Merchant, Rebecca Whitmer, Mark Merchant (Rose), Janice Vincent (Ron), Tim Merchant (Loretta), Raymond Whitmer, Ronnie Whitmer (Heather), April LeGrand (Melvin), Matt Whitmer and Shawn Freeman; his brother Terry Whitmer (Sherry); and his granddaughter Haley Whitmer. He is also survived by thirty-three grandchildren; along with numerous great grandchildren, extended family and friends.
