He was predeceased by: his parents, Phyllis Merold and Carl Merold; his sons, Mike Merold and Joe Merold; his grandson Jay Pope; and his brother-in-law Jimmy Bock.

He is survived by: his spouse Pat Merold; his children, Mark Merold (late Elaine), Vanda Yorks and Eleanor Pope (Arlen); his children-in-law, Linda Merold and Cindi Marshall (Kirk); his grandchildren, Josh Merold (Amy), Matt Merold (Kelli), Joseph F. Merold, Catherine Merold, Trenton Yorks, Tammy Tucker (Greg) and Susan Heaton (Wes); his great grandchildren, Elizabeth Merold, Caleb Merold, William Merold, Harrison Merold, Benjamin Merold, Jaxson Merold, Mia Merold, Hayden Merold and Jayden Merold; his sister Carlene Merold; and his siblings-in-law, Judy Behrens (late Ward), David Bock (Patti) and Danny Bock.
