He was predeceased by: his wife Charlene Belle Vest; his parents, John Vest and Ethyl Vest; and his siblings, Mary Lorraine Leigh, Virginia "Jenny" Lee Perkowski and William Huber Vest.
He is survived by: his children, John Vest (Jen) and Mary Pohl (Patrick); and his grandchildren, John Jr. (Megan), Alaina (Dylan), Charlene "Charley" and Brendan.
