He was predeceased by: his parents, Vernon Poertner and Evelyn Poertner (Luetkemeyer); his sister Elizabeth Hancock (Poertner); his grandparents, Fred, Alma Poertner (Budde), Oscar and Bertha Luetkemeyer (Moentmann); his aunts and uncles, Howie and Cecelia Luetkemeyer; and his in-laws, Rev. Walter and Helen Schwane (Kramer).
He is survived by: his wife Dr. Grace Poertner (Schwane); his children, Daniel Poertner (Debbie), Timothy Poertner and Sarah Popp (Michael); his grandchildren, Hector, Robby, Samuel, Andrew, Richie and Kallub; and his niece Julie McDowell (Darrel). He is also survived by in-laws, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 24th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Friday, September 25th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 25th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church (115 S 6th St, St Charles, MO 63301).
Memorials may be made in David's name to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
