She was predeceased by: her parents, Roy Mertz and Octavia "Billie" Mieger; her daughter Susan "Sue" Shy; and her brothers, Roy Mertz and Norman Mertz.
She is survived by: her husband James Bernell Shy; her daughter Sharon Hanawalt (Larry); her grandson William "Bill" Cantwell (Tara); and her great grandchildren, Mackenzie Cantwell, Hunter Cantwell and Brooklyn Cantwell.
Memorials may be made in Sandy's name to St. Jude Research Hospital.
