He was predeceased by: his parents, JoAnn Hoyt and Charles Hoyt; his wife Joyce Petty; his son Dannie Brown; and his siblings, Mark Petty, Janet Petty and Terry Hoyt.
He is survived by: his daughter Denise Smith (Henry) of St. Joseph; his siblings, James, Richard, Harold Hoyt, Debra Williams, Kathy Atkinson and Sheryl Hoyt; and his grandchildren, Mykyla "Molly" Petty, Dillon Sisk, Kristyna Brown and Cory Brown. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
