He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Smith and Margaret Smith (Ditto); and his sister Ellen McKiddy (Smith). He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Fastenau; and his children, Christine, Diane and Michael. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church.
