He was predeceased by: his parents, William Sterling and Mary Sterling (Philips); his wife Bessie Lyon; and his siblings, Leo Sterling, Iona Lyon and Richard Sterling.
He is survived by: his son James Sterling, Jr.; his grandson James Sterling III; and his sister-in-law Sylvia Summers (Gary). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
