He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Whiting and Alice Whiting (Taysen); and his sister Janet VanWinkle. He is survived by: his children, Valeri Whiting, Nick Whiting (Kristi) and Stephanie Klein (Wendell); and his brother Randy Whiting (Judy). He is also survived by 6 grandchildren; 2 1/3 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
