He is survived by: his father Thomas Coates; his wife Amber Lee West; his children, Bailey Sipes (Erica), Madelynn Coates and Jacob Coates; his grandson Benjamin Sipes; his sister Jennifer Koch (Kyle); and his nephews, Tyson Koch (Bianca) and Dayne Koch.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Scott Coates Benefit Fund at Nodaway Valley Bank.
