He was predeceased by: his wife Marlene M. Burgett; his parents, Zelma Burgett (Van Voorst) and Paul H. Burgett; his siblings, Charles, Allen, Richard, Max, Melvin Burgett and Essie Cunningham; and his granddaughter Audrey Elizabeth Thomas.
He is survived by: his children, Karen Totten, Theresa K. Burgett (Stuart A. Lewis), Donald V "Jake" Burgett Jr. (Cecelia) and Nicholas Burgett (Karen McKinley); and his grandchildren, Deane Sagehorn and Eleanor "Nellie" Thomas. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Air Force Assistance Fund.
