He was predeceased by: his parents, James Cooney and Agnes Cooney; and his brother Daniel Cooney. He is survived by: his siblings, Deborah Mullen (Frank) and David Cooney; his niece Melissa Mason (Zach); his great-nephew Hayden Mason; his great-niece Hadley Mason; and his niece Amy Mullen. He is also survived by friends; and cousins.
