He was predeceased by: his parents, Essel Johnson, Sr. and Susie Johnson; his grandmother Elizabeth "Lizzie" Johnson; and his brothers, Robert and Haywood.
He is survived by: his children, Cynthia D. Williams (Vellie), Bethany "Baby Beth" Johnson-Javois (Laurent), Michael (Irene), Steve (Hattie) and Paul Johnson (Nina); his grandchildren, LaKeisha "Kipp" Johnson, Cynthia "Dani" Adams (Andre), Andre (Andrea), Essel and Erica Johnson; his great grandchildren, Azanae, Kyree, Ashleigh "Rubberduck", Arabella, Jayla, Jordan and Jaylen; his great great grandchild Layah; and his siblings, Andrew, Howard, Virginia "Sister", Marjorie, Estelle, Carolyn, Gwen and Annice. He is also survived by in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends.
