James J. Wilson Obituary

James J. Wilson, born on April 10, 1939, passed away on September 7, 2026. James leaves behind family members and others who acknowledge this loss. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, James E. Wilson and Rose Wilson (Rindler); and his former wife Doris Wilson (Prag). He is survived by: his wife Mary Beth Layton; his children, Kathleen Wilson, Sharon Wilson Geno of Washington, DC, Julia Wilson Pendleton (Michael), James M. Wilson and Laura Wilson Hoefler (Michael) of St. Louis; and his grandchildren, Anna Pendleton, Adam Pendleton, Olivia Geno, Elise Geno, Ava Hoefler, Sophia Wilson, Ella Wilson and Colin Wilson.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 25th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary (6464 Chippewa St, St. Louis, MO 63109). A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 26th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church (6303 Nottingham Ave, St. Louis, MO 63101).

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Great Rivers Environmental Law Center or a charity of choice. Memorial contributions made in Jim's name to Great Rivers Environmental Law Center will support the newly created James J. Wilson Environmental Law Student Writing Competition.
