He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Lloyd Byron Townsend (Laverne Wren Townsend) and Carroll Lee; his stepgrandfather Carroll Gordon; his wife Phyllis; his children, Jeanna Woods (John Woods), Joanna Ehlers (Robert Ehlers) and Jaimee Vandenboogaard; and his grandchildren, Atlas James Ehlers and Elizabeth Rose Ehlers. He was also cherished by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends.
