Tory Starbuck wrote a sympathy message

“When Leon was in the music/belly dance group final Veil with Cora my band used to play out with them in the early 2000s up until 2007. Leon and I also started recording an album together of new wave jazz funk with Derrick Shakir on saxophone. We had a lot of fun making this imaginative muzik and one night in Columbia, Mo. Leon came and played percussion with my band and helped me out a great deal because he certainly did not have to do that. I have missed talking to him and creating art together”

“I met Leon in 2000 when he replaced Skoota Warner in project Logic. He was a really warm person and when he was in New York he would talk about his family back in St Louis, he missed them a lot. Leon was a very warm person and whenever we would cross paths he always had a big embrace. When most of the guys in the band were schooled musicians with degrees, he was proud that he came up in the clubs. We kept in touch over the years after he went back home I think he was glad to get out of NYC.”
