He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis Cocozza and Mary Cocozza (Eichorn); and his brother Keith Cocozza. He is survived by: his wife Marcia L. Alton; his sons, Joe Thurman of Sedalia, Trek Cocozza of Sedalia and Jon Cocozza of Sedalia; and his brother Marc Cocozza. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren.
James chose to donate his body to science.
