He was predeceased by: his parents, Horace Byrd and Margaret Byrd; and his brother Banks Byrd. He is survived by: his wife Paula K. Byrd; his daughters, Julie Banks (Jamie) of Madison and Sara Poynor (Luke) of Sullivan; his grandchildren, Emma Banks, Sarah Banks, Wyatt Poynor and Jacob Poynor; his siblings, Ramona Dunn, Harriet Ward, Linda Cookman (Ted) and John Byrd (Peggy); and his close friends, Tim, Becky Wade, Blake, Madalyn Wade, Jim and Marsha Davis. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Alan's name to St. Jude Research Hospital.
