He is survived by: his sons, Jason Whitten (Alexie) and John L Whitten Jr.; his grandchildren, Eli Whitten (Ellie), Savannah Dean (Hunter), Alex Whitten (Bethany), Hannah Whitten and Olivia Whitten; and his siblings, Rosetta Whitten, Cherie Whitten, Rita Jakes, Deene Ann Ford and Pete Whitten. He is also survived by five great grandchildren.
