He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Ruffin and Ester Keys. He is survived by: his brother Gary Ruffin of Hendersonville; his half-sister Velma Steed of Washington; and his children, Cheryl DeGraffenreid, Cynthia Cox (Larry Cox), Tammy Skidmore (Ryan Skidmore), Michael Ruffin and Steven Eugene Ruffin. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
