He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Neal Coats and Anita Coats (Caruthers); and his sister Laura Johnson (Coats). He is survived by: his wife Gina; his son Drew Crain (Kirstie); his granddaughters, Rilynn and Hadley; his daughter Kathryn Coats; his parents-in-law, Robert and Ruth Stevens; and his brothers, Steve Coats and Charlie Coats. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; extended family members; and many dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a youth shooting sports organization or conservation program of the donor's choice, helping to pass along the values of responsibility, safety, sportsmanship, and outdoor traditions that John cherished throughout his life.
