He was predeceased by: his parents, John Withers and Dorothy Withers; and his sister Helen Withers. He is survived by: his wife Nora Griffin; his daughters, Sue Withers (Andrew Moller) and Ali Gray (Ian); and his grandchildren, Lauren Gray and Gemma Gray.

He went with Kiwanis to read to preschoolers and continued to read at Pleasant View R-6 on a weekly basis until COVID restrictions were introduced.
