He was predeceased by : his parents, Thomas Smith and Ruby Ellen Smith (Burress); his daughter Jody Smith Thomas; and his brothers, Donald, Johnny, Tom and Walter Smith.

He is survived by : his daughter Gayla Smith Campbell (John) of Maryville, MO; his stepdaughter Stormy Newton of Trenton; his siblings, Shirley Smith of Kansas, Lorene Stark of Gallatin, MO and Lester Smith of St. Louis, MO; and his grandchildren, Hylee Thomas, Michael Thomas, John Lee Campbell Jr., Fairann Campbell, Krystal Roberts, Jeff Newton, Josh Newton and Jacob Newton.
