He was predeceased by: his mother Shirley Gortney; and his father-in-law Howard Becker. He is survived by: his father Ralph Gortney; his wife Lanett Gortney of Union; his children, Emily Gortney (Nathan Smith) of Union and Caleb Gortney (Amanda) of Columbia; his grandchildren, Jackson Gortney, Lynnlee Smith, Braxton Gortney, Harper Gortney and Charley Gortney; his brother Farrell Gortney (Nancy) of Illinois; his mother-in-law Hettie Becker of Union; and his sisters-in-law, Laurie Becker (Darrell) of Villa Ridge and Louise Maciejewski of Washington. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Union Food Pantry or to the Franklin County Humane Society.
