He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert and Viola; his parents-in-law, August and Edna; his children-in-law, Randy Mercer and Christie Cowan; his sister Darlene Becker (Emmett); his brother-in-law Roy Warden; his nephew George Becker; and his great-nephew Tharin Cowan.

He is survived by: his wife Karen Cowan of Union; his children, Pamela Mercer of Leslie, Curtis Cowan of Union and Deanna Colombo (Joe) of Union; his grandchildren, Derek Mercer (Andrea), Dan Mercer (Ashley), Adrienne Mercer, Jake Gildehaus (Whitney), Brittany Gildehaus, Wade Gildehaus (Megan), Dalton Colombo, Alison Colombo and Skylar Colombo; his siblings, Rose Marie Duckett (Frank) of Williamsburg, VA, Clarence Cowan (Janice) of Republic, Ronald Cowan (Jane) of Washington and Richard Cowan (Maunawaun) of McKinney, TX; and his sister-in-law Donna Warden of Union. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
