He was predeceased by : his parents, Arthur and Margaret Altvater; his former life partner Mary Ann Funsch Altvater of St. Louis; his siblings, Donald Altvater and Joyce Deibel; and his stepson Matthew "Kirk" Mayer.
He is survived by : his wife Victoria Kirchoff Mayer Altvater (late Matthew Francis Mayer); his brother Arthur William "Bill" Altvater (Pat); his children, Margaret Altvater Clark (Dave), Patricia Altvater Davis (late Michael), Kurt Altvater (Elaine), Jeffrey Altvater (Melanie), Tina Altvater (Mark), Tomea Mayer Mersmann (Ken) and Sarah Mayer; and his grandchildren, Julie Clark Gay (Ryan), Curran Clark Tricia Clark (Kylie), Christopher Neider (Graciela), Nicholas Neider, Matthew Davis, Alexander Davis, Konrad Altvater, Maren Altvater, Hadley Altvater, Joy Mersmann, Grace Mersmann, Mark Mersmann, Adam Hotaling and Julia Hotaling. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
