He is survived by: his father Francis Tempfel; his wife Karen Sue Cochran; his nieces, Tina Tempfel Stanley of Bedford, Virginia, Saundra Cochran Smith of Clinton, Linnet Harlan of Pacific Grove, California, Laurel Harlan and Heather Harlan of Columbia; his nephew Tim Harlan of Columbia; and his brother-in-law Brent H. Cochran.
