It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Louis Max James of Bay Springs, Mississippi, born in Gibsland, Louisiana, who passed away on August 19, 2025, at the age of 90, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Clawson James and Louise James; his siblings, Mary Nell Childs and Robert "Bud" James; his daughter Peggy Ann James; and his son-in-law Hansel "Winky" Wilson.
He is survived by: his wife Sue James; and his children, Sharilyn Schattgen (Mike), Susie Wilson, Sonya Windham (Dwayne) and Paul Spurlin (Julie). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a niece and nephew.
He graduated from Haynesville High School in 1953, where he was chosen "Mr. Tornado" his senior year, partly because Max excelled as an offensive tackle, back in the days when football helmets didn't have face masks.
