He was predeceased by: his wife Elizabeth "Betty" Benton; his son Richard Douglas Benton Jr.; his brothers, Robert "Bob" Benton and William "Bill" Benton; and his parents, Lois McConnell Benton and William K. Benton.
He is survived by: his daughters, Theresa Fuller (Joey) of Brandon, Susan Carrafiello (Michael) of Beavercreek, Annette Benton of Orlando and Catherine Chavez (Miguel) of Raleigh; his daughter-in-law Kay Benton of Gulfport; and his grandchildren, Jeff McNew, Josh Fuller, Katie Berry, Charlie Benton, Joe Carrafiello, Elizabeth Chavez and Luke Carrafiello (Miguel Chavez). He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
