He was predeceased by: his wife Nancy Petty; his parents, Abb Petty and Modena Petty; and his brothers, Hester Petty and Garland Petty.
He is survived by: his daughter Sheila Boling (Scott Boling); his sister Joan Pannel; and his grandchildren, Brett Boling (Sarah Boling) and Deanna Carpenter (Michael Carpenter). He is also survived by great-grandchildren.
