He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Christopher and Myrtis Williams Smith; and his brothers, Billy Powell Smith and Caby Carrol Smith. He is survived by: his wife Vivis Yvette Moore Smith; his sons, John Cary Smith and Carl Anthony Smith (Malisia James Smith) of Brookhaven; his stepchildren, Kimberly Jean Hutchinson (Travis David Hutchinson) and Bradley James Pfranger (Jessica Matlock Pfranger); his grandson Garrett Tanner Smith; and his stepgrandchildren, Graci Clark, George, Paul, Jonathan Hutchinson, Scarlett and James Pfranger. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
