He was predeceased by: his parents, O. L. Gary and Pearl Gary; his former wife Mary Elizabeth Gary; and his son Dennis Gary. He is survived by: his wife Nancy Swindoll Gary of Calhoun City; his sons, Steve (Angela) of Madison, AL, Reuben Swindoll (Dollie) of Water Valley, MS and George Swindoll (Allison) of Allegany, NY; and his grandchildren, Matthew Blain Gary, Renee Gary Wofford, Ashley Swindoll, Jacob Swindoll, Lauren Hallows and Emaline Swindoll. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Gideon's Memorial Bible, PO Box 167, Calhoun City, MS, 38916, to further the effort to spread God's word worldwide.
