He is survived by : his wife Joann Ikerd Gates of Moon Lake; his children, William Ward Gates, Jr. of Louisville, MS and Susann Gates Jamison (Chad) of Marks, MS.; his grandchildren, Logan Kennedy Gates, William Ward Gates, III of Fort Meyers, FL, Emily Jamison Williams (Chandler) and John McDonald Jamison of Marks, MS; and his great grandchild Jaxon Pierce Williams.

Visitation was held on Sunday, April 21st 2024 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home (314 E 2nd St, Clarksdale, MS 38614).
